If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take to get to us from Lawrenceville:
- Take Scenic Hwy N south out of Lawrenceville. Continue for 6.5 miles, then turn left onto Wisteria Dr once you reach Snellville. At the roundabout, take the second exit (continuing straight), then turn right when you’re about level with the post office. You’ll go through the Snellville Animal Hospital’s parking lot, and we’re on the other side of the building, at 2381 Main St E.
- If Scenic Hwy N gets too busy on the way into Snellville, you could turn left onto Stratford Dr and then right onto North Rd. Continue until you reach Wisteria Dr, then turn right and continue with the above directions. The roundabout will come up slightly faster this way.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Lawrenceville was officially incorporated on December 15, 1821, by an act of the Georgia General Assembly, making it the second oldest city in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The city was named in honor of Commodore James Lawrence, a U.S. naval officer famed for his service during the War of 1812 and remembered for his famous dying words, “Don’t give up the ship!” The name “Lawrenceville” was suggested by William Maltbie, who served as the town’s first postmaster.
In the same year, a permanent site for the county courthouse was chosen and purchased, and the layout of the town began, including the four streets surrounding the square and a public well. The town’s first permanent courthouse, a brick building, was constructed by Major Grace between 1823 and 1824 at a cost of $4,000. The current historic courthouse that still stands on the square was built later, in 1885.
