Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take:
- For anyone coming to us from the direction of the Gwinnett County Public Library: Snellville Branch, we’re just around the corner. Head southwest on Wisteria Dr. Stay on Wisteria past the roundabout, turn right at the cemetery corner, and find us next to the animal hospital. The Burger King on the sharp corner is just to the east of us.
- If you’re coming to us from somewhere like South Gwinnett Park (hopefully not due to a dental emergency, but we can help if that’s the case!), get onto McGee Rd heading south, then turn right onto US-78. Stay on that as it bends through the heart of town, then turn left just before the Burger King, and there we are!
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Snellville isn’t a very old city in Georgia, having been settled in 1874 and incorporated in 1923, but the history is still interesting and it revolves around two young Englishmen in the late 1800s. In 1874, two friends, Thomas Snell and James Sawyer, set out on a voyage to the New World. Sawyer arrived in New York City, journeyed to Georgia, and settled in Gwinnett County, where he eventually found Snell in a small settlement known as New London.
Together, they established Snell and Sawyer’s Store, prospering by the end of 1879 and contributing to the growth of the town, later named Snellville. The partnership dissolved, and Sawyer continued the store, serving as postmaster and contributing to Snellville’s development. Snell, unfortunately, passed away in 1896.
The town’s history includes Sawyer’s contributions, with the original store lasting until 1960, replaced by a service station. Sawyer, who lost his sight later in life, died in 1948 and is buried in Snellville Historical Cemetery.
As of the latest 2020 census, Snellville boasts a population of 20,573 residents. The city’s political structure comprises a mayor and five council members overseeing its vibrant community. With over 100 dedicated employees, Snellville operates seamlessly through five essential departments: Administration, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development, Public Safety, and Public Works. Encompassing a spacious 10.6 square miles, Snellville has experienced substantial growth. Within its city limits, 14 houses of worship stand as a testament to the diverse and thriving community that calls Snellville home.
